GREATER U STREET JAZZ COLLECTIVE

Russell is the Executive Director and Woodwind Instructor of the DC Music Center, which for 42 years has been a Washington D.C. music education institution. Some of the Center's most notable alumni are his sons Rashaan Carter (Bennie Golson, Geri Allen, Wallace & Antoine Roney, Ravi Coltrane), Roland Carter (Wallace Roney) and Russell Carter Jr. (Sonny Simmons, Billy Bang, Doug and Jeane Carn).  Russell Carter Sr. has played with the Cab Calloway Orchestra, Doug Carn, trumpeter Webster Young, Winard Harper, Solomon Burke and The O'Jays.
